Holding Steady: Leadership During Volatility

CHANGE, DISRUPTION, AND CRISIS ARE NOT ANOMALIES— THEY ARE CONSTANTS WE MUST EXPECT TO NAVIGATE.

The pace of change in today's world is staggering and shows no signs of slowing down. In leadership contexts, practical solutions and information exchange between theory and practice must be emphasized whenever possible. For organizational leaders, the ability to hold steady during change, chaos, and complexity is essential, yet, this capacity is also profoundly humanistic, and cannot be reduced to a one-size-fits-all recipe or process.

In this work, Dr. Griffin-Ray, Dr. Coffill, and I invited practitioner-scholars to share their research and reflections on change and disruption in organizational settings, as well as shared our own. Then, we combine this research with our lived experience to and share perspective on what it can and does look like to "hold steady" and provide leadership in chaotic circumstances.
